Wedding mania

So this weekend, Kev's cousin is getting married. It's a bit sudden, but no, she's not pregnant. She wanted her brother to be there, and brother is leaving for Iraq in July. Gulp! So if it's your thing, please pray for him, okay?

Anyway, since I am not shy about proclaiming the word of God, Cousin chose me to read in her wedding. She was a bridesmaid in mine, so I guess it's only fair. Though "bridesmaid" is a determinedly non-speaking role. I digress

She myspaced me the reading I have to do, wanna see? Of course!

"here- finally- is the reading i will expect you to happily recite this saturday. wow- saturday- craziness.....anyway

you get the racy song of songs, 2:8-10, 14, 16

8
Hark! my lover-here he comes
springing across the mountains,
leaping across the hills.
9
My lover is like a gazelle
or a young stag.
Here he stands behind our wall,
gazing through the windows,
peering through the lattices.
10
My lover speaks; he says to me,
"Arise, my beloved, my beautiful one,
and come!
14
O my dove in the clefts of the rock,
in the secret recesses of the cliff,
Let me see you,
let me hear your voice,
For your voice is sweet,
and you are lovely."
16
My lover belongs to me and I to him;
he browses among the lilies.

the 'browsing among the lilies' line is kind of unnecessary, but i guess we have to keep it anyway."

Seriously, Oh my Christ, where to begin? HARK! My love is like a young... STAG?! How am I going to keep a straight face?!

On a related note, when we had Kev's aunt read at our wedding, I typed the readings up to email to her. Our reading started with "The door was shut". Of course, I typed Shit. Which, do you know, is a real word according to MS Word? Oh yeah.

Well, here's hoping I don't bust up laughing or curse on the altar. O My DOVE?!

yeah, george is such a great kid. a man? it's hard to think of him that way cause i've known him since he was a this tiny little kid with a big mouth and wild curious mind. in many ways he ways he's SO much more grown up than i will ever be. there's not many folks i can think of that have so uniquely marched to the beat of their own drummer as dear george.

i saw him out front of the phila-deli on south street about 2 summers ago when he first told me about his plans and he showed me a bunch of CDs he bought. it was such an awesome surprise running into him as i love george very much. always curious, always serious in his endeavors, always 100% certain about who he is and where he's headed - that's george.

god bless him and i will most definitely keep him in my prayers. send him my love when you see him.

Believe it or not, I believe in prayer. Just not in schools.

Anyway. I love the "Old school" Song of Solomon. Perhaps you could read that version? Because otherwise? Damn. Can you bring a flask into the ceremony site? I think a heavy belt of booze would be the only way I could get through reading THAT!

I'm sorry I'm so late commenting on this one, but as you may know, I was out of town and now I'm getting caught up on my blog reading!! I had to read that Song of Songs thing at my now ex-friend's wedding (one year ago on Sunday)! I was freakin' AWFUL. I was like, "Are you serious? SERIOUSLY? I have to read THIS?!? WHY DID YOU PICK THIS?!? THIS IS SOOOO GAYYYYYY!" But I did it. And now she doesn't talk to me anymore. I don't know why. Perhaps she could read my mind that day??
